New Class on What to Expect for the New *Grand-parent!*
Hudson Valley Hospital Center introduces new grand-parenting 101 class
Cortlandt Manor, NY ... Remember when you put a baby to bed on his stomach? Or when car seats weren’t mandatory? Many new grandparents remember those days of raising children, but the times have changed and so have some of the recommendations. To help new grandparents ease into their new roles, Hudson Valley Hospital Center is introducing a *new* monthly class designed especially for expectant or first time grandparents.
”Modern day grandparents play very active roles in their grandchildren’s lives. In many cases, grandparents are caregivers for their grandchildren,” said Teri Lowinger, RN, Director, Maternal Child Health at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “We saw a need for a class to help them refresh their skills and so far the response has been great.”
The two hour class will be led by Felicia Manigault, a nurse at Hudson Valley Hospital Center, and Linda LeMon, a lactation consultant at the Hospital. The class will give grandparents opportunities to share their fears, concerns and joy of being a new grandparent in a friendly, safe environment.
The one session class will cover a variety of topics including the most up to date evidence based recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The grandparent class is held on the third Monday of each month from 11am to1pm at the Dempsey House which is adjacent to the Hospital at 1992 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor. The first class is scheduled for Monday, November 16th at 11am. To register, or for more information call 914-734-3257.
